Ford F-150 Blog

Welcome to the Carolina (Cloninger) Ford F-150 Experience Page!

The Ford F-150—the best-selling truck in the United States—was redesigned for 2015, with an all-new, lighter aluminum body. Ford added a number of enhancements for 2016. Two paint colors, a special-edition package, and trailer backup assist option are new. Also, Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system is standard, and an ultra-premium Limited trim level debuts.

F-150 trim levels include: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and the new Limited in regular, extended cab, crew cab types, with three bed sizes: 5 ft. 6-in.; 6 ft. 5 in.; and 8 ft. All are available in 4x4 or 4x2 drive configurations.

2016 Ford F-150’s higher trims use soft-touch materials throughout a handsome interior. The seats are roomy and supportive. Reviewers praise the SYNC 3 infotainment system for its user-friendliness, but some say that pairing a smartphone with it can be difficult.

2016 Ford Pickups and Chassis Cabs are the real leaders – pulling the heaviest trailers in their classes. In fact, when properly equipped, the Super Duty® can handle conventional trailers up to 19,000 pounds, 5th-wheel trailers up to 26,500 pounds and gooseneck trailers up to 31,200 pounds.

Features include an available integrated trailer brake controller, trailer tow mirrors and 360-degree camera system that provides a view of all four sides of the vehicle. The available Smart Trailer Tow Connector provides drivers with trailer connection status, lighting and trailer battery alerts and warnings. The Dynamic Hitch Assist enhancement to the optional rear camera enables easier hitching by helping to line up the truck and trailer without requiring a spotter or having to get out of the vehicle.

Ford offers V-6 and V-8 engines for the F-150. The base XL is equipped with an EcoBoost, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 282 horsepower and tows up to 7,600 lbs. A turbocharged, 2.7-liter V-6 engine generates 325 horsepower and 375 lb.-ft. of torque, while the V-8 engine produces 385 horsepower and 387 lb.-ft. of torque. All are partnered with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Ford’s 2016 F-150 comes standard with the next-generation Sync 3 infotainment system. A new infotainment screen is featured on the new Limited.
The new Pro Trailer Backup Assist allows a driver to reverse the F-150 with trailer using a knob on the dash.

Did you know?
• The F-Series has been the best-selling truck for 39 consecutive years
34 of those years, it's been the best selling vehicle in America. Last year, for example, over 780,000 F-Series left the factory. To put that in perspective, there were just over 120,000 Mustang sales last year.

• The lineup of names as you know it today was established in 1953
That's when the F-1 became the F-100, the F-2, and F-3 wound up as the F-250, and so forth. That might seem trivial, but the "names" were easier to digest, and it set the stage for the wild sales that were to come.

•  The F-100 didn't get factory four wheel drive as an option until 1959
Prior to that, it had to be sent to a third party to be converted at an additional cost.

• The Ford F-150 was the original monster truck
Anyone that grew up in the '80s or later came of age watching that beautiful blue F-150 fly through the air and crush cars with abandon. Then, in 2010, after over 30 years of F-150 heroics, Bigfoot switched to Chevy.
